A former state prison sergeant was indicted July 17 on three felony charges for allegedly abusing a co-worker earlier this month at Lewis State Prison in Buckeye.

Ramon Godoy, 33, was charged with kidnapping, sexual abuse and attempted sexual assault of a female correctional officer, Maricopa County District Attorney Rachel Mitchell said.

The incident occurred on July 7, when Godoy told the woman to meet in a gym at the prison complex.

Godoy allegedly held the woman in a chokehold while sexually abusing her, with the woman repeatedly telling him “No” and “Stop,” according to court documents.

According to MCAO, the woman suffered physical injuries and filed a report with police.

Godoy was later arrested in prison while on the job.

In a police interrogation, Godoy pleaded guilty and told authorities that he had received complaints in the past about groping and sexual comments toward other co-workers.

“This defendant abused the trust between colleagues and assaulted his victim in a place where others were not around,” Mitchell said. “As a sworn prison officer, you do not have a free pass to assault.”

Godoy was held in the Maricopa County Jail on $75,000 bail.
