How do I vote by mail in Hawaii?

Hawaii is one of eight states with universal mail-in voting, meaning every registered voter should have received a ballot in the mail by July 23. Here’s how to cast your vote by mail:

  1. Check your ballot: Look at both sides for all races and measures.
  2. Please indicate your choices: Use a black or blue pen to fill in the boxes for your selections.
  3. Seal your ballot: Place your completed ballot in the secret sleeve and then place the secret sleeve in the return envelope.
  4. Sign the envelope: Read the confirmation statement and sign the return envelope. Your ballot will not be counted without your signature.

How do I return my ballot?

  • By mail: Use the prepaid return envelope. Send it in plenty of time to make sure it arrives on time.
  • Via Drop Box: Drop your ballot in a designated drop box. Find locations and times at elections.hawaii.gov.

What if I haven’t registered to vote yet?

  • Submit your application to your county Elections Department no later than 4:30 p.m. local time on July 31.
  • Register online or at a voter service center. You only need to re-register if you change your address, name, or mailing address.

Can I vote in person?

If you are a resident who wants to vote in person, you can visit a polling place in your county. These centers will open on July 31 and offer in-person voting and same-day registration. Check your county’s website for locations and hours of operation.

Can I track my Hawaii ballot?

Voters can virtually check the status of their mail-in ballot by signing up for BallotTrax.
