Pieces of an “explosive device” were found in a mailbox in Sacramento, according to the sheriff’s office.

(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported finding pieces of an “explosive device” and a destroyed mailbox package locker in Sacramento Wednesday night.

According to officers, the mailbox was located at 8800 Redwater Drive in northern Sacramento County, near Antelope.


Images shared by officers on social media show a mailbox safe completely blown open. Black spots can be seen that could indicate an explosion.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordinance Disposal team processed the scene and conducted an investigation into the explosion, officials said.

The sheriff’s office added that the case has been sent to the postal inspector for further investigation.
