Third arrest made in connection with death in Cushing

A total of three people have been arrested so far in connection with the death of a Waldoboro man earlier this month.

Last week, the state’s Chief Medical Officer identified the victim as Kyle MacDougall, 45, of Waldoboro.

The first to be arrested was 41-year-old Mark Gagne after authorities processed the crime scene at 843 River Rd. in Cushing. According to state police, Gagne was charged with hindering apprehension and abuse of a police force.

Jason Hewett, 38, of Augusta, was the second person arrested after a police chase that began along Route 2, continued along Route 3 in Augusta and ended in a ditch outside Nadeau Chiropractic and Wellness Center. Though Hewett initially barricaded himself in his car, he eventually surrendered peacefully. He was charged with eluding, domestic battery and manslaughter in connection with Cushing’s death.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said a third person has now been arrested in connection with the case.

“On Thursday, July 25, 2024 at approximately 1:30 p.m., detectives from the Major Crimes Unit Central arrested 39-year-old John Flower of Rockland. Flower was charged with Obstruction, a class B felony, in connection with the Cushing Death Investigation. Flower was being held in the Knox County Jail on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest.

Moss says Flower is expected to make her initial appearance in Knox County District Court on Friday.

Authorities have not yet released any information about the cause of death in this case.
