JetBlue Sues Florida Department of Revenue

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – JetBlue Airways is suing Florida’s tax authorities, according to court documents.

The major airline filed the lawsuit seven days ago in Leon County civil court. JetBlue accuses Florida of falsely determining that JetBlue owed an additional $631,000 in corporate income taxes from 2019 to 2021, according to documents obtained by WCTV. In the filing, JetBlue alleges the state calculated the tax based on a geographic area that extends beyond Florida’s actual borders.

News of the filing comes just days after it was announced that JetBlue is pulling out of Tallahassee International Airport (TLH) in Leon County.

Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey said he understands this was a business decision and that the city hopes JetBlue will fly to TLH again in the future.

WCTV reached out to JetBlue for comment on the filing, asking in an email whether the filing was related to the airline’s decision to cease operations at TLH. JetBlue did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
