Two dead in single-vehicle crash in northwest Phoenix

Early Friday morning, two people were killed in Phoenix when their car crashed into a pole and burst into flames, police say.

Phoenix police said officers responded to a call around 6 a.m. on July 26 in the 12800 block of North 35th Avenue. They found a woman outside her car on fire. Phoenix Fire responded and extinguished the fire. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.

After police extinguished the car fire, they found another victim in the car, a press release said.

Witnesses told police the car was traveling northbound on 35th Avenue at a high rate of speed when the car lost control and struck a metal utility pole, a news release said.

The names of the victims have not been released.
