Montgomery Sheriff’s Office charges minor in death

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder that occurred early Friday morning and resulted in the arrest of a juvenile.

At about 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 6000 block of West Hickory Grove Road on a report of a shooting, said Capt. Randy Pollard, who heads the office’s investigations division. They found Rueben Squire, 79, dead, Pollard said. The sheriff’s office has not released a cause of death.

As part of the investigation, sheriff’s detectives, accompanied by patrol, SWAT and Montgomery Police Department personnel, went to Monticello Drive. A juvenile was located, arrested and charged with murder.

The name of the minor has not been released. Alabama law prohibits the release of names of minors accused of crimes, even if they are charged as adults.

The minor and the suspect know each other, but the sheriff’s office has not disclosed the nature of their relationship.
