Festival at Evergy Plaza celebrates African-American culture

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A four-day festival honoring African-American culture is underway in the capital.

The second annual For The Culture Kansas Fest continued Friday at Evergy Plaza, highlighting African-American culture in the Sunflower State. Dancers and musicians will perform throughout the weekend at Evergy Plaza, which will also feature African-American art.

An event organizer from For The Culture Kansas, the group behind the event, says it’s important to share African-American culture.

“African American culture is so rich and so ingrained in American history that we need to let people know that it’s not just for us, it’s for everyone,” said Alona Harrison of For The Culture Kansas. “African American history and African American culture are for us, by us, for the community.”

The festival ends on Sunday. Admission is free and more information about the festival can be found here.
