Pedestrian believed to have been hit by car at GCU dies in hospital

PHOENIX — Detectives are searching for a suspect in a hit-and-run crash Thursday that left a pedestrian dead, Phoenix police said Friday.

Police responded to the scene at 35th Avenue and Camelback Road near Grand Canyon University, where they found a pedestrian with serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Camelback Road, away from the marked crosswalks, when he was struck by a driver traveling westbound on Camelback Road.

According to police, the driver exited the vehicle on foot near 39th Avenue and Elm Street, about a mile from the crash scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
