16-year-old Kelsey Zhang runs 4:48.82 400 IM on Day 2 of Sacramento Futures

Day 2 of the Sacramento Futures Championships saw the 16-year-old Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics Kelsey Zhang a new personal best of 4:48.82 en route to winning the women’s 400 IM by a significant margin. Zhang’s previous best of 4:51.14 was set in May at the PC SCSC George Haines International meet. Last night, Zhang swam a very balanced race, posting 1:04.44 in butterfly, 1:16.99 in backstroke, 1:22.56 in breaststroke and 1:04.83 in freestyle. Canyons Aquatic Club 14-year-old Emma Hussein also had a great performance for 2nd place, with a time of 4:53.05. That performance broke her personal best of 4:56.43, which the young lady had set about 3 weeks ago at the LA Invite.

Cal Baptists Andrew Tehwho competed for the Socal Aquatics Association, won the men’s 100-meter backstroke in 56.19, setting a huge personal best for the 19-year-old. Teh began the competition with a career best of 57.71, which he swam in May of this year. He swam a very tight race last night, running 27.76 in the first 50 meters, coming home in 28.43.

from UCLA Sarah Bennettsswimming for DART Swimming, won the women’s 100-meter freestyle in 57.09. It was a very solid swim for Bennetts, who just missed her personal best of 56.70, which she swam last summer at the Sacramento Futures meet. The 46-year-old Gabrielle Roos I also had a very nice swim, with a 4th place in 57.25.

Arizona’s Hayden GhufranAnother swimmer representing DART won the men’s 100-meter freestyle in 50.39. He has a personal best of 49.80, which he swam in May at the Canadian Trials.

Princetons Arthur Balva won the men’s 400 individual medley in 4:25.59, placing him exactly 4 seconds ahead of the pack. He was well-balanced across the strokes, clocking in at 57.60 in butterfly, 1:09.77 in backstroke, 1:16.48 in breaststroke, and 1:01.74 in freestyle. That performance was better than his previous best time of 4:26.38.

In the women’s 100m backstroke, 15-year-old Ella Busquets from Diablo Aquatics took the win with a time of 1:03.23. With that swim, Busquets improved her previous best time of 1:03.62, which she swam last summer at the Far Westerns Championships, by 0.39 seconds.

DART Swimming won the women’s 800-meter freestyle relay, Sarah Bennetts lead-off in 2:04.76, followed by Audrey Portel in 2:06.79, then Kylee Sears in 2:05.71, when Ava Portello in 2:03.08. Together they achieved a time of 8:20.34 and won the race with a lead of almost 6 seconds.

In the men’s 800-meter freestyle relay, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics won Arthur Balva (1:51.02), Shangxi Wang (1:54.94), Donovan Jeng (1:55.60), and Cole Ballard (1:52.44) worked together and took the win in a time of 7:34.00.
