LISTEN: Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll release song of the summer

I’ll be the first to admit that I immediately shuddered when I heard that Machine Gun Kelly was going to make country music and release a song with Jelly Roll.

MGK of all the people going to the countryside? Really?

For better or worse, I’ll admit I was wrong, because MGK and Jelly Roll’s brand new ‘Lonely Road’ – which samples John Denver’s classic ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ – is an absolute JAM. I literally can’t hate on it and neither can fans, as it’s already #1 on Spotify’s Top Singles chart.

MACHINE GUN KELLY AND JELLY ROLL NEW SONG ALREADY TOPPING THE CHART

Machine Gun Kelly and Jelly Roll play off each other perfectly as their friendship of over 15 years shines, as both use their skills from when they were both aspiring rappers before branching out into other genres of music. In a social media post, MGK joked that the duo’s new name would be ‘KellyRoll.’ He added that the new single took two years to complete, as both artists worked on it in “8 different studios in 4 different countries, (while also) changing (their) keys 4 times.”

The duo played the song for the first time last night and the audience was already feeling it.

Prediction: ‘Lonely Road’ is going to be played NONSTOP for the next few months, so you might as well just get on board. Hopefully the younger generations, like Gen Z, will take the time to learn and appreciate the original John Denver version so we can continue to pass on this great music to future listeners.

Machine Gun Kelly is the latest musician to make the transition to country music, following in the footsteps of Post Malone, who released a new album with country musicians Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs.
