School board appoints 13 members for citizen advisory committee

The Board of Education has appointed 13 new members to the 34-member Citizen Advisory Committee, a panel that provides input and advice on specific issues surrounding education across the county. The appointees, approved at the Board’s July 17, 2024 meeting, are:

  • Annapolis Cluster, Secondary Representative: Susan Hersman
  • Arundel Cluster, Elementary School Representative: Danielle Terrell
  • Arundel Cluster, Secondary Representative: Talaya Pike
  • Broadneck Cluster, Primary School Representative: John Fogarty
  • Chesapeake Cluster Elementary School Representative: Jennifer Jackson
  • Glen Burnie Cluster, Primary School Representative: Monica Czubba
  • North County Cluster, Elementary School Representative: Janica Johnson
  • North County Cluster, Secondary Representative: Jason Whetzel
  • Northeast Cluster, Secondary Representative: Ted Anderson
  • Old Mill Cluster, Elementary School Representative: Ashley Armstead
  • Severn Run Cluster, Primary School Representative: Eugenio Matias Perez
  • Severn Run Cluster, Secondary Representative: Ixchel Baker-Tate
  • Severna Park Cluster Elementary School Representative: Scott Murphy

The board is accepting applications for the following positions:

  • Broadneck Cluster, Secondary Representative
  • South River Cluster, Secondary Representative
  • Southern Cluster, Secondary Representative

The CAC consists of two representatives from each of the 14 high school clusters, one representative from each of the elementary schools and one representative from each of the high schools, two at-large representatives and three representatives from the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs, Special Education Advisory Committee and Parent Involvement Advisory Council, and one representative from the military.

Applications for the three vacant positions, which can be found here , must be received by the school board no later than 4:00 p.m. on July 31, 2024. The school board will appoint representatives for these positions at a subsequent meeting.

The committee must meet at least four times a year, but generally meets seven times a year. Meetings are generally held in the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. CAC meetings and membership are open to all, regardless of whether or not they have children attending AACPS.
