Man accused of killing his father and daughter in Baton Rouge shooting dies after apparently hanging himself

BATON ROUGE La. (BRPROUD) — A man accused of killing his father and daughter before fatally shooting himself in March died Friday, July 26, from complications after allegedly hanging himself, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Brent DeLoach, 63, was found unresponsive and alone in his cell with a blanket around his neck during initial rounds at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday morning, EBRSO said.

Deputies removed the blanket and began life-saving measures. They contacted prison medical staff and EMS. According to EBRSO, DeLoach was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was placed on a ventilator.

EBRSO said Friday evening that “his remaining family members removed him from life support and he died from his injuries.”

DeLoach was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of Sidney DeLoach, 84, and Christina DeLoach, 30. The shootings occurred at a home in the 5200 block of Bluewater Drive in March.

According to EBRSO, the East Baton Rouge coroner will perform an autopsy to confirm DeLoach’s cause of death.
