Lansing trio arrested after high-speed chase in stolen vehicle

HOWELL — A trio from Lansing have been arrested following a high-speed chase early Saturday morning through Livingston County in a stolen vehicle.

Livingston County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they spotted a stolen Dodge Challenger driving eastbound on Interstate 96 near M-59 in Grand Rapids around 7:30 a.m. while on regular patrol.

When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped off the freeway and returned to the freeway at Latson Road, where officers lost sight of the vehicle before the pursuit, which had reached speeds of 125 mph, ended.

A police officer then spotted the vehicle on I-96 and later Brighton police saw the Dodge Challenger on Grand River Avenue.

Brighton police attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it sped off, leading police into Hartland Township, where police lost sight of the vehicle again.

But a tipster called 911, troopers said, to report that the Dodge Challenger was near Washington Street and Hibner Road in the village of Hartland. Another tipster gave authorities a description of three people walking away from the Challenger.

An officer approached them from behind a garage. According to the officers, the suspects ignored the order to stop and walked toward the officer.

“At that time, a second vehicle arrived to pick up the occupants,” officers said in the release. “Backup officers arrived and were able to take the suspects into custody.”

According to deputies, the driver of the Dodge Challenger was a 29-year-old Lansing man who was charged with fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and child abuse. A 26-year-old Lansing man also is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 58-year-old Lansing woman, is charged with driving without insurance, troopers said.
