Miami Dolphins Make Roster Moves on Day Off

The Miami Dolphins continue their biggest personnel change of the summer with a few other roster moves on Saturday, their first day of this training camp.

The Dolphins announced that they have signed veteran linebacker Curtis Bolton in his third year and released rookie quarterback Gavin Hardison.

The official announcement of Tua Tagovailoa’s contract extension, which was reported on Friday is still pending and will likely take place on Sunday when the team returns to training.

Bolton joins the Dolphins after spending the past two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he played 23 games, after playing five games for the Detroit Lions in 2022.

Bolton, who also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans after entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 2019, has played almost exclusively on special teams.

Of his 507 career snaps in 28 games, 491 were on special teams. With the Raiders in 2023, Bolton played 253 special teams snaps compared to 15 on defense.

Bolton, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs 225 pounds, will have a tough time earning a spot on the 53-man roster.

Hardison’s move wasn’t a surprise at all, as teams don’t need four quarterbacks in training camp and Now that Tua has signed his contract extension, he can start training in full swing.

From the start, Hardison was someone who had to make a big and quick impression to continue playing for a long time, as he rarely attended his training sessions.

Hardison signed with the Dolphins after undergoing Tommy John surgery at UTEP. During spring workouts that were open to the media, Hardison showed a strong arm but also a tendency to spray the ball a bit.

With Hardison gone, the Dolphins have three quarterbacks on the 90-man roster (technically 91 players, as Dominican rookie Bayron Matos is exempt), namely Tagovailoa, Mike White and Skylar Thompson.
