DADDY COCKROACH singer Jacoby Shaddix joined SHINE DOWN onstage Friday night (July 26) at The Venue at Thunder Valley in Lincoln, California to perform a cover of LYNYRD SKYNYRD‘S “Simple man”. SHINE DOWN recorded a cover of “Simple man” in 2004 as an acoustic “thank you” to LYNYRD SKYNYRD singer Ronnie Van Zantthe widow Judy Van Zant and later included it – in both acoustic and hard rock versions – on the reissue of the band’s debut album, “Leave a whisper”.

SHINE DOWN singer Brent Smit talked about how the band’s cover “Simple man” came about in an interview with Metal hammer magazine. He said, “Our original guitarist, Jasmine Toddwas married to Melody Van Zant (Ronnie Van Zant‘s daughter). When I was writing ‘Leave a whisper’, Judy (From Zant, Ronnie(the widow of ‘s) put me up in her boarding house, and our first show before an audience that was there to see us was in a club Judy And Melody property. After we started touring, we played ‘Simple man’ on a radio show in Boston. They released it as an MP3 and it was downloaded 500,000 times. Then we recorded the song in the studio in three takes.”

DADDY COCKROACH will celebrate its only UK performance of 2025 with the band’s first ever headline show at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on 7 February 2025. It will DADDY COCKROACH and their biggest ever production tour through their vast music catalog, including a celebration of the 25th anniversary of their iconic breakthrough album “To plague”.

“To plague” reached number five on the Billboard 200 chart and was RIAA (Association of the American Recording Industry) for sales of over three million copies in the US alone. The album featured the iconic hits “Last resort” And “Broken family” plus fan favorites “Blood Brothers” And “Between Angels and Insects”.
