Early in-person voting is in full swing in cities across the state, and city officials tell me it’s one of the most important days of the year.

“Vote early and vote often,” said Devyne Lloyd, co-president of Reo Elementary.

Saturday was the first day of early in-person voting for the Aug. 6 primary, in addition to early voting by mail, thanks to a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2022.

“Early voting is a great opportunity to put your ballot into the voting machine just like you would on Election Day,” said Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope.

Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope believes early voting is vital to community members.

“We would love for people to get used to the fact that we can vote early; it’s really important. I think it will make a big difference in the November election,” said Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope

Swope tells me that they learned from their experiences in February with early voting and have now made it easier for the community to vote early.

“You now actually have the right to take the ballot that you filled out to an early voting location. You get the best of both worlds,” said Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope.

Devyne Lloyd, co-president of Reo Elementary, believes that having community members participate in the election process ensures their voices are heard and they create the change they want to see.

“It’s incredibly important, especially in an election like this where there’s a front and a back,” said Devyne Lloyd, co-president of Reo Elementary.

“Do your research to know who and what you are voting for to support your community,” said Devyne Lloyd, co-president of Reo Elementary

Early voting ends next Sunday, August 4. Click here to find polling stations near you.
