CT Challenge Bike Ride Continues Fight Against Cancer in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – Hundreds of people gathered in Fairfield Saturday morning to rally for an important cause with the CT Challenge.

The CT Challenge bike ride has raised more than $25 million in support of cancer patients since its inception in 2005.

The bike ride is the primary source of income for the nonprofit organization, now known as Mission, with proceeds going to programs that provide health and wellness resources during cancer treatment and beyond.

This year 250 cyclists took part, some of whom covered as much as 160 kilometres.

“The hundred-milers go all the way to Lake Waramaug and they’re out on the course all day doing a lot of work for us,” said Laura Equale of CT Challenge. “There’s a lot of people who raise money for us. It’s been an extraordinary year and we’re so grateful.”

According to CT Challenge, good nutrition and exercise can increase the risk of cancer recurrence.
