Suspect charged with attempted murder in Iowa motel stabbing

CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing that occurred early Friday morning at a hotel in Clive, according to police.

According to Clive police, Wa’il Muhannad, 62, is being held in the Polk County Jail.

Officers and medics responded to the Days Inn Motel at 1600 NW 114th Street at 3:29 a.m. on a report of a stabbing. Dakarai Jackman, 28, was found in the motel’s outdoor yard with serious injuries caused by a large knife. Police say the knife was recovered at the scene.

Police say Jackman was taken to Methodist Hospital and underwent surgery for serious injuries and is expected to recover.

Muhannad initially fled the scene of the stabbing on foot, but police found him a short distance away and he was apprehended without incident. He was taken to hospital for observation and then released into police custody.

The investigation so far has revealed that Muhannad and Jackman knew each other and that the stabbing was the result of a physical confrontation between the two at the hotel.

The investigation into the case is still ongoing.

The charge of attempted murder is a Class B felony.

Clive, Urbandale and West Des Moines Police, Clive EMS, West Des Moines EMS all responded to the scene. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office are also working the case.
