Corpus Christi Hooks press release

SPRINGFIELD – The Cardinals won a pitching duel against the Hooks on Saturday night, beating Corpus Christi 4-0 before a crowd of 5,002 fans at Hammons Field.

Miguel Ullola handled the loss through bad luck, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks and striking out six in six innings of work. Ullola retired the first nine batters he faced en route to his second quality start of the season.

Ullola sent a scoreless stalemate into the sixth inning, as Springfield mustered just two baserunners in the first five frames. Jeremy Rivas hit a solo homer to left to start the scoring. The Cards made it a three-run inning by collecting a walk with back-to-back, two-out doubles by Nathan Church and Jimmy Crooks.

Jeremy Arocho had two of Corpus Christi’s five hits with singles in the first and third innings. Hook’s lone extra-base hit was a six-inning double off Brice Matthews, who has hit safely in each of his last eight games.

Pascanel Ferreras reached base twice, including a single at the start of the ninth inning.
