Hiker finds human remains near South Mountain trail in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police are investigating after a hiker found human remains near a trail on South Mountain Saturday morning.

Shortly before 10 am, police say a hiker contacted a park ranger after finding the remains near Las Lomitas trail, who then called police.

Officers responded and were guided to the area, where they confirmed the remains were human. Detectives were soon called to the scene to process evidence.

Police say the remains will be collected by the Office of the Medical Examiner, who will work to confirm an identity and manner of death.
