Casper Spuds defeat Oahe Zap 20-5 in Independence League

Saturday night, Mike Lansing Field was the place to be for fireworks.

The Casper Spuds put on the first show, collecting 18 hits en route to a 20-5 Independence League victory in their penultimate regular season game. After the game, fans were treated to a real fireworks show, courtesy of Riverside Mobile Home Park.

One night, after having to come from behind following an 8-4 win, the Spuds (41-8) scored early and often against the Zap.

They scored three runs in the first inning and added another in the second, before deciding the game with four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and a six-run in the sixth.

Matt Marsic drove in four runs, including a two-run single in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth. Jaxson Bates had a bases-clearing double in the sixth and Dawson Baracani also batted in three runs.

Starting pitcher Armani Knipper allowed just one hit and struck out five in three innings.

The Spuds improved to 28-2 at home ahead of Sunday’s regular-season finale. They will play at least one more home game in the Independence League Championship Series.

Casper will be on the road for the first two games on Tuesday and Wednesday before hosting Game 3 on Friday. Games 4 and 5, if needed, will be next Saturday and Sunday at Mike Lansing Field.
