Warm and foggy conditions persist across the region

WEATHER DISCUSSION: It was another day of near average temperatures and foggy conditions for most of the area. It will be cooler for the weekend with most highs in the 80s and 90s and lows in the 40s and 50s tonight. Isolated to scattered storms remain possible, especially across parts of Southwest Mt and parts of Central MT along a passing upper level shortwave. Most storms remain on the dry side for Central Montana with the main dangers being showers/storms, gusty winds and lightning. Westerly winds continue to carry smoke and haze from wildfires in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest into the region.

An upper level trough will slide in on Monday, bringing windy and dry conditions with the strongest winds along the Rocky Mountain Front with gusts up to 35 mph. The windy and dry conditions on Monday will also bring some heightened concerns for fire weather. Moisture will move in along the trough on Tuesday, bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms to the region in the afternoon/evening.

A ridge of upper-level temperatures will build up again on Wednesday, bringing warmer, above-average temperatures. Most lower elevations look to be in the 90s Thursday through Saturday. Mainly dry conditions are expected for the second half of the week, with periods of windy conditions possible along the Northern Rocky Mountain Front on Wednesday.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny, then partly cloudy with highs around 27 degrees and lows around 10 degrees. Wind speed 16 to 32 km/h.

FRIDAY: Sunny, then mostly clear with highs around 32 degrees and lows around 17 degrees.
