Grab your kayak or canoe for the Newcomerstown River Poker Run on August 10

On August 10, a river poker run will take place at Simonds-Heller Park as part of the Newcomerstown Now Second Saturday events.

Participants can use a kayak or canoe and there are two routes to choose from. The cost is $25.

The first is 17 miles from Gnadenhutten to Newcomerstown. Participants can register at 8:30 am at Simonds-Heller Park. The second is 6 miles from Newcomerstown to the West Lafayette 751 slope. Registration is at 11:00 am at the park.

If you don’t want to kayak, Newcomerstown Now has other activities in the park, including a fishing contest from 9 a.m. to noon, a frog hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a scavenger hunt from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, Atom Lax will perform from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and food trucks will be on site from noon to 5 p.m.

Meet the team

Meet the team for fall sports will be held on Wednesday, August 7 at 6:30 p.m. in Lee Stadium. A parent meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Vaccination clinic

The Tuscarawas County Health Department is holding a back to school vaccination clinic, at Medi-Wise Pharmacy, by appointment only. Appointments are available from 9 a.m. to noon on August 7 and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on August 12. To schedule an appointment, call 330-343-5555, ext. 1810.

Bring insurance card if applicable and parental identification. Cost is $21 per vaccination for those without insurance. Cash or checks are accepted.

Bike round-up

A bike drive for children in kindergarten through grade 6 will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on August 6 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Participants must bring their own bike and helmet. If it rains, games, food and crafts will be available inside.

Swimming party

A free community pool party will be held at the Cy Young Pool on August 5 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, sponsored by the Arrowhead Primary Care Clinic of Coshocton Regional Medical Center and the Newcomerstown Walk-in Clinic.

End of summer party

The Newcomerstown Public Library is hosting an all-ages End of Summer Party on August 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with food, bounce houses, and music by Rust Monkey. Bring lawn chairs.
