Two people on a motorcycle die in a two-vehicle collision in Topeka

Two people on a motorcycle, a man and a woman, were killed late Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash that also involved an SUV at the corner of SW 10th and Fairlawn Road.

The names and ages of the deceased were not released Sunday morning.

Three minors in the other vehicle were injured and taken to a hospital by American Medical Response ambulance, Shawnee County Sheriff Brian C. Hill said in a news release late Saturday. Their names, ages, genders and information about their conditions were not released.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash at 11:54 a.m. Saturday, Hill said.

Investigators determined the motorcycle and a Chrysler Voyager collided when the motorcycle was traveling northbound on SW Fairlawn and the driver of the Voyager was traveling southbound on SW Fairlawn and turning east onto SW 10th, the driver said.

Hill said the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.

Topeka police and Topeka Fire Department assisted at the scene, he said.

It was not immediately clear why the sheriff’s office investigated the crash instead of the police. Topeka police generally investigate crashes that occur within city limits.

According to Hill, further investigation into the matter will continue on Sunday.
