Yamal and De Jong among 10 missing for Barcelona’s US tour

Barcelona will be without ten players during their tour of the United States as injuries and international commitments negatively impact preparations for the new season.

Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati are all injured and are not part of the group of 31 players who flew to Orlando, Florida, on Sunday.

Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres will also miss the trip, as they are on holiday after helping Spain win the European Championship this month, while Pau Cubarsí, Fermín López and Eric García will represent the trip. The Red one at the Olympic Games in France.

Meanwhile, Raphinha and Ilkay Gündogan will travel independently to Orlando, where Barça will play Manchester City on Tuesday. Jules Koundé will join the squad in Annapolis, Maryland, on Thursday.

Following the match against City, Barça will play Real Madrid in New Jersey on August 3 and conclude the tour with a match against AC Milan in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 6.

With so many players missing for those three games, new coach Hansi Flick will be forced to use a combination of rookies and young players to shore up the numbers.

Oriol Romeu and Clément Lenglet have both left, despite sources telling ESPN that both are expected to leave this summer. Meanwhile, young Brazilian striker Vitor Roque will be given the chance to prove himself amid ongoing debate over his future at the club.

German youth international Noah Darvich and his cousins ​​Guille Fernández and Toni Fernández, both 16 years old, are among the standout players from the youth teams.

Barça kick off the new LaLiga season on August 17 with a trip to Valencia.

Araújo is not expected back until late this year after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury, while Gavi is not expected to return until October after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament last year.

De Jong has been sidelined since April with an ankle injury, but is expected to return soon. Ansu and Pedri are expected to return within a few weeks with foot and knee problems respectively.
