5-star OT target Josh Petty visits FSU on Sunday with August decision pending

Florida State still ranks 17th among recruiting classes according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, as the Seminoles look to add talented players to their team’s future core.

Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins is considered one of the top recruiters on the coaching staff, having already signed players such as five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas and four-star offensive lineman Peyton Joseph.

However, there is one more prospect they are eager to bring in: five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty.

Florida State will lose current players like Darius Washington, Maurice Smith, Jeremiah Byers, Keiondre Jones, Richie Leonard IV and others after the 2024 season. Atkins will have his hands full, as replacing those guys won’t be easy.

Speaking of Petty, he’s been on the Seminoles’ radar for a while now. The five-star prospect visited the Seminoles during the huge weekend of June 23 and even has a crystal ball prediction for Florida State.

Things were looking good for the Roswell, Georgia native, as he was set to announce his commitment between Florida State, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Tennessee and Ohio State on August 12 (his birthday). His sister attends school in Tallahassee and it would have been an easy transition for him and his family.

It was thought to be a slam dunk of recruitment for the Seminoles. However, we know how volatile recruitment can be. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets put their hat in the ring when Petty visited their campus yesterday. Fans were nervous because it could be his last visit before a decision was made.

Petty, however, will now visit Florida State on Sunday. This is a huge development for the Seminoles’ recruiting class. Hopefully landing a certified blue-chip prospect at the offensive tackle position is something that can never be ruled out. Atkins and Co. have done a great job of building a relationship with the five-star prospect and not being complacent in their recruitment of him.
