Police: Car crashes into cliff on California coast, 3 dead

Three people have been killed in a car crash on a cliff at Devil’s Slide south of San Francisco, the California Highway Patrol said.

A car has crashed off a cliff on the coast of Highway 1 near Devil’s Slide, killing three occupants, the California Highway Patrol told news outlets.

The CHP received reports of the fatal crash between Pacifica and Montara at 11:19 a.m. on Friday, July 26, the agency told SF Gate.

The car plunged 300 to 400 feet (90 to 120 meters) into the ocean, KRON reported.

Rescuers found two people dead inside the vehicle and a third person dead on Saturday, July 27, when the car was recovered, KGO reported. The crash closed Highway 1 for several hours.

The identities of the three people killed in the crash have not been released, KTVU reported. The cause is still under investigation.

Devil’s Slide is located approximately 20 miles southwest of San Francisco.
