CUMMING, Ga. — U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to be in Atlanta on Tuesday. One of four men in the running to be Harris’ vice presidential nominee, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, was in Cumming for a rally Sunday. He was surrounded by a large crowd of Harris and Democratic Party supporters waving “Harris for President” signs and wearing green “Kamala is Brat” buttons.

Bashear, who was in one of Georgia’s traditionally Republican districts to support Harris, took a microphone from the back of a pickup truck parked outside the Forsyth County Democratic Party office. He told the crowd he was on familiar ground, having stood in the back of a pickup truck at political rallies.

“We win by staying true to our values, by bringing everyone together, we win by caring and fighting for every vote in every county,” Bashear said. “Every single one of you matters.”

Of Forsyth County’s 227,887 residents, more than 178,000 are registered voters, according to data from Georgia Votes. Georgia’s 16 electors are crucial to both parties’ presidential elections.

Bashear said the Trump and Vance campaigns’ attacks on Harris’ record, and in some cases her intelligence and ability to hold the position of Commander-in-Chief, won’t work with voters. During his speech, he also cited Trump’s 34 felony convictions and multiple bankruptcies.

“In Georgia and across America, every vote counts,” he said.

One of those voters, R. Denise Grimes, was in attendance Sunday and thought the crowd’s excitement was a good sign for Harris’s bid for the White House.

“I am so excited and hopeful for our future because we have a candidate who will get this country back on the track of openness, freedom and knowledge,” said Grimes, a DeKalb County resident.

A campaign office opened in East Point on Friday, packed with supporters. Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA), Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA), and East Point Mayor Deanna Holiday Ingraham were all on hand to talk to Harris and her Democratic Party supporters about the upcoming election.

In addition to Atlanta, Harris will be in Houston, Texas, next week for the funeral of Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee. It is Harris’ second trip to Houston in as many weeks and her third visit to Texas this month. She was in town to deliver the keynote address at the American Federation of Teachers convention on Thursday.
