Sophia Smith scores twice in USWNT Olympic Games win over Germany

US Women’s National Soccer Team Forward Sophia Smit scored two goals and assisted on another. Mallory Swanson during a 4-1 win over Germany in a Group B match at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday (July 28).

Smith scored in the 11th minute from an assist from Trinity Rodman to give the Americans their first goal and a 1-0 lead. Germany tied the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute before Smith assisted Swanson’s goal in the 26th minute.

Smith scored again in the 44th minute to extend the United States’ lead, but was forced to leave the field late in the second half. Lynn Williamswho replaced Smith, scored the final goal for the Americans in the 89th minute.

The US national team previously defeated Zambia 3-0 in a Group B match prior to the opening ceremony last Thursday (July 25).
