LSU Football’s 2019 National Championship Season Aged Even Better This Week

The LSU Football team completed one of the most incredible seasons in college football history in 2019, going 15-0 and winning the National Championship. The team is now often in the debate with the 2001 Miami Hurricanes, the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers, the 2004 USC Trojans, and a host of other National Champions for the title of greatest team of all time.

The case for LSU as the greatest national championship team in the history of the sport got a little stronger this past week. While some of the NFL’s elite young quarterbacks continue to sign extensions and prove themselves, LSU’s case as the greatest team ever is undeniable.

In Week 5 of the 2019 season, the LSU Tigers defeated bottom-ranked Utah State 42-6, but they should have because that team lacked significant NFL talent, right? Well, this week Jordan Love became the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history with his extension.

In Week 8, LSU defeated the Auburn Tigers 23-20 in what was the most exciting game of the entire season. That Auburn team was led by Bo Nix, who was selected 12th overall in this year’s NFL draft by the Broncos.

In Week 9, LSU went to Bryant-Denny Stadium and defeated Alabama 46-41 in a matchup of two of the most talented teams ever. The Tide was quarterbacked by Tua Tagovailoa, who signed a huge contract that makes him the third-highest paid quarterback in NFL history. Alabama also had first-round picks in Najee Harris, Henry Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith and several other highly drafted players on the roster.

In the SEC Championship game, LSU faced Georgia, which featured future first-round picks throughout its defense.

In the semifinals, LSU faced Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma Sooners and won 63-28. The Sooners were quarterbacked by Jalen Hurts, who was the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time of his contract extension. The Sooners also had wide receiver Ceedee Lamb, who is awaiting a contract extension that will make him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history.

Finally, LSU was crowned in the National Championship against Clemson, winning 42-25 in New Orleans. Clemson was quarterbacked by Trevor Lawrence, who kicked off this cycle this summer and is still the highest paid quarterback per year. Clemson had elite weapons such as Tee Higgins, Travis Etienne, AJ Terrell, Isaiah Simmons and Andrew Booth.

The LSU football team may not be the best or most talented team in history, but it’s hard to find anyone who’s played a tougher schedule. LSU reigned as the nation’s second or highest ranked team for most of the season, beating the ninth ranked team twice, the seventh ranked team, the fourth ranked team twice, the third ranked team and the second ranked team. Every week the Tigers faced one of the best teams in America, and every week it was a party in Baton Rouge.
