Patriots Reveal Star DT’s Absence from Training Camp Due to Blood Clots

The New England Patriots revealed some surprising news about a player’s absence from training camp. Defensive tackle Christian Barmore, a defensive mainstay for the Pats, was mysteriously absent on Sunday.

The Patriots invested heavily in Barmore’s future — signing him to a massive four-year, $92 million contract extension this offseason that cemented his role as a leader in New England. Barmore’s absence raised concerns after New England added veteran free agent Josiah Bronson to the roster to take over Barmore’s reps.

As it turns out, Barmore, 25, is battling a serious health issue and it is uncertain whether he will be able to return for the season in time based on the treatment needed. New England released a statement indicating that Barmore is dealing with blood clots, without a timetable for his return.

“Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots over the weekend. He was treated appropriately by the physicians at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian. Our primary concern at this time is the health and well-being of Christian.

“Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best health care in the world. While there is no current schedule for his return, we know Christian is receiving great care and we look forward to his full recovery.”

Last season, Barmore totaled 64 tackles, 8.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
