Trump is endorsing both candidates in the Arizona House primary after previously choosing sides

Former President Trump on Sunday retracted his previous endorsement during the hotly contested Arizona House primary, opting to give his “full and total” support to both candidates.

Trump previously endorsed Abe Hamadeh for the Republican primary in Arizona’s 8th District against Blake Masters, both of whom ran unsuccessfully in the 2022 state elections, but he hedged his bets by also endorsing Masters in a post on Truth Social on Sunday morning.

Trump said there are “two spectacular America First candidates” in the race and complimented both Masters and Hamadeh.

“They’re both going to be spectacular, and I’m thrilled to announce that both Blake Masters and Abe Hamadeh have my full and total support to be the next Congressman from Arizona’s 8th Congressional District,” he continued. “THEY WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”

Hamadeh and Masters have become bitter rivals since they ran together for public office in 2022: Hamadeh for attorney general and Masters for the Senate.

The July 30 primaries are expected to be exciting among the candidates.

Trump’s shift comes after he added Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) to his ticket as a vice presidential nominee. Vance’s 2022 campaign was largely funded by tech billionaire Peter Thiel, who was also a major funder of Masters’ campaign.

Both Vance and Masters have close ties to Thiel, though Masters has tried to distance himself from the mega-donor in recent days.

Trump endorsed Masters in the 2022 Senate race, which he lost to Sen. Mark Kelly (D).
