More wildfire evacuation orders for properties near Slocan Lake

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has issued new evacuation orders due to wildfires burning in the Slocan Valley Complex.

The other properties that need to be evacuated are the Evans Creek Campground and 9557 Slocan Lake in RDCK.

An eviction order now also applies to six plots of land in constituency H.

Yesterday, July 27, evacuations were announced for 208 properties in Slocan and a further 419 properties in Electoral Area H. The measure came into effect at 8am on July 28.

Evacuees can register for support in person at the Selkirk College Castlegar Campus Reception Centre, 301 Frank Beinder Way. Only residents with an evacuation order are eligible for ESS.

There are five wildfires burning in the Slocan Valley Complex, two of which are notable: the Komonko Creek fire with an estimated size of 2,288 hectares and the Aylwin Creek fire with an estimated size of 637 hectares.

Highway 6 remains closed south of New Denver.
