Baton Rouge Zoo Unveils New Entrance

BAKER, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Zoo has a new entrance that promises to improve the experience for all visitors. The renovation is part of a broader effort to modernize the zoo and make it more accessible and fun for everyone.

According to Jim Fleshman, director of the Baton Rouge Zoo, the new entrance marks the beginning of a whole new experience for visitors of all ages.

“It’s been a really complete project for us, as we move toward our accreditation with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums,” Fleshman said. “That’s probably the driving force behind this whole thing, to really create a better facility and more for our guests.”

This upgrade is part of the zoo’s master plan, which includes new exhibits, educational programs and community events.

“It’s not just about the animals. It’s about the location, the geography, the people that are there historically. Add some context to it so we can really give you a snapshot,” Fleshman said.

The zoo aims to become a centre for nature education and conservation, engaging visitors in experiences that bring them closer to nature.

Jennifer Shields oversees the zoo’s educational programs, which help children of all ages.

“The goal of the youth initiatives is to build that care for the environment and nature so that when they go to school they get an education, but also empathy. That’s the most important thing for us,” Shields said.

Thanks to these exciting changes, the Baton Rouge Zoo remains a beloved destination, providing both fun and education for all who visit.

The new entrance is just the beginning of a series of improvements that will take the zoo experience to the next level in the years to come.
