Nate Carter gives elite quote highlighting his love for Michigan State football

Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith made the perfect choices to represent him at Big Ten Media Days this week.

Dillon Tatum, Nate Carter and Jack Velling represented Michigan State at the media event and while it may seem like a surprising trio of Spartans, it felt like there was a method to the madness that was the selection. One of the picks was a lifelong Michigander who committed to Michigan State out of high school (Tatum), one was a transfer who had been with the program for a year (Carter) and the last is a brand new Spartan who has yet to play a game in East Lansing (Velling).

Tatum shared his thoughts on the program, saying it’s up to him to make sure it doesn’t back down and gets back to winning ways. Velling talked about how Aidan Chiles is shaping up to be the leader everyone expected him to be. And Carter said the team is hungry to prove people wrong.

But Carter had more to say than that. He also had one of the best quotes of the week about his love for Michigan State and the football program.

Jim Comparoni discovered the quote in an article by Paul Konyndyk.

““I love Michigan State,” Carter said. “You want to go to a school that you would love even if you weren’t playing football. And for me, Michigan State is that school. I love the culture here. I love the family atmosphere here. I want to play football here. I want to stay here. I want my kids to go here. I love this school, not because of the football aspect, but because of what Michigan State is.”

Nate Carter, RB from Michigan State

The “I love Michigan State” quote is a classic because everything he says is how all Michigan State alumni feel. He clearly loves the program, but he admitted that he would love the school even if he didn’t play football. The “family atmosphere” is a common term used to describe Michigan State and the fact that he said he would want his kids to go there is a huge statement.

It’s cool to see even the new players on the team giving such glowing comments about Michigan State. Carter feels like the perfect representative for both the football program and the university.
