Local Conn’s and Badcock stores close due to bankruptcy

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A retailer of home goods, furniture and appliances is closing several stores, including one in Grovetown and one in Augusta, after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Conn’s HomePlus filed for bankruptcy protection on Tuesday and announced it will close about half of its 170 stores, including one in Augusta at 596 Bobby Jones Expressway.

Conn’s is also the parent company of Badcock Home Furniture & more, which will close about 35 stores.

According to the store’s website, the Badcock location at 5107 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, among others, was affected.

The announcements come after years of struggles in the retail sector, due to inflation and changes in shopping since the pandemic.
