Paris Olympics: Kevin Durant’s heroics help US beat Serbia 110-84 in opening game

Villeneuve-d’Ascq (France): Powerhouses USA defeated Serbia 110-84 in the opening match of Group C at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

After missing a single game during practice games due to a left calf injury, Kevin Durant reminded the world that he is one of the best shooters the sport has ever seen.

The Phoenix Suns forward scored 23 points that night and recorded an impressive 8-9 field goal shooting record, also making 5-5 three-pointers from beyond the arc.

He also extended his record as the national team’s all-time leading scorer with 435 points and hopes to become the first male basketball player to win four Olympic gold medals.

Pairing with KD, Lebron James scored 21 points, dished out nine assists and grabbed seven rebounds on a night that saw him become the oldest player to play for the United States men’s national basketball team.

The first half was evenly matched, with the score being 58-49 in favor of the United States. In the third quarter, however, the reigning champion took the lead and eventually won by a wide margin.

Nikola Jokic, three-time NBA MVP winner, was the only bright spot for the Serbian team: ‘The Joker’ scored 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and gave eight assists.

The US plays its second Group C match against South Sudan on Thursday (IST).
