Northern Lights Forecast: Idaho Residents May See Northern Lights

Boise, ID – Idahoans can witness a rare celestial event as the Northern Lights are expected to be visible Monday night into Tuesday morning. Increased geomagnetic activity could extend the aurora into Idaho.

According to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, the geomagnetic storm index is expected to reach Kp levels of 6-7, which will greatly increase the chances of seeing the aurora. The best viewing times are predicted to be between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM Mountain Time, provided the sky is clear.

Known for their vibrant green, pink, and red lights, the aurora is created when solar particles collide with the Earth’s magnetic field. For the best viewing experience, residents should seek out dark, open areas away from city lights. Keeping up to date with local weather forecasts for cloud cover and using real-time aurora activity trackers will increase your chances of seeing this spectacular display.
