South Topeka house fire causes $35,000 in losses

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka firefighters extinguished a house fire over the weekend that caused thousands of dollars in damage.

The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) was called to a home in south Topeka in the 130 block of SE Willow Way during the evening hours of July 27. Firefighters arriving at the home observed smoke and flames coming from the exterior of a nearby home.


Rosie Nichols of the City of Topeka said in a news release that all residents of the home were able to leave before firefighters arrived. Firefighters later determined that the fire caused approximately $30,000 in damage to the structure of the home and $5,000 in damage to the contents. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
