Michigan State Basketball Team Ranks in Top 10 for Best 50 Forwards

The good news continues to roll in for Michigan State basketball. We all know how hard Tom Izzo works on recruiting and that has been the case again this offseason.

Izzo and his team are making great progress with many of their top targets and received more good news on Sunday regarding one of the country’s top new players.

Cam Ward is a four-star forward from Upper Marlboro, Md. Ward is the No. 48 player in the nation according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 15 forward in the country and the No. 2 player out of Maryland.

Also in Ward’s top 10 with Michigan State are Marquette, Mississippi State, Alabama, Kansas State, Maryland, Virginia, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Florida State. While each top 10 has tough programs to beat, this one feels very manageable considering the best programs in the country are nowhere to be found.

In addition to being in Ward’s top 10, Michigan State is also one of four schools planning an official visit. Ward will make his official visit to East Lansing this fall on Sept. 28.

So while Ward has only released his top 10 so far, it’s a safe assumption that Michigan State is actually one of his top four schools. Kansas State, Maryland and Alabama are the three other schools with official visits scheduled with Ward.

When Ward spoke to On3’s Joe Tipton about his upcoming visit to East Lansing, he said the following.

“How do you say no to Tom Izzo? That guy is a legend and I see everything they’re going to do with me to get me into the league and be part of a family.”

That sounds like someone who is extremely interested in Michigan State. Hearing that he respects Izzo so much and sees a path to the NBA at Michigan State are two great things to hear from a recruit.

We’ll see how this recruitment pans out later in September, but you have to be happy with the Spartans’ current position.
