An updated look at the Sacramento Kings’ 2024-25 roster

After a series of intra-league moves that saw several big names switch teams, the NBA’s off-season is on hold.

It was inevitable that things would slow down at some point – it happens every summer – as teams look to finalize their rosters in preparation for the upcoming 2024-25 season. While the major moves may be over, there’s still work to be done for many teams, including the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings added undrafted rookie guard Boogie Ellis to their roster over the weekend, a well-deserved move for the USC product after he averaged 10.0 points and 1.2 steals per game on 47/47/75 shooting splits for Sacramento during eight NBA Summer League appearances.

With the addition of Ellis, who will compete for a roster spot during training camp, the Kings now have an even more guard-heavy roster as the search for frontcourt reinforcements continues.

Below is the current roster for the Sacramento Kings training camp for the 2024-25 season:

The Kings have a plethora of guards at their positions, with several guards (De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis and Kevin Huerter) able to see minutes in the starting unit.

Sacramento’s big midseason swing was the sign-and-trade deal for six-time All-Star wing DeMar DeRozan, who appears to be in line to slot alongside Keegan Murray at the Kings’ starting forward position. Other than DeRozan, the only other forward McNair acquired this summer was Jalen McDaniels, who played just 10.8 minutes per game for the Toronto Raptors last season.

McNair and his management still have a few tricks up their sleeve when it comes to making another move, whether it’s for a player like Cam Johnson or another deal that would allow Sacramento to bolster its front line.

With just two months left before the Sacramento Kings report to training camp for the 2024-25 season, there’s a good chance this roster will look different come October.

In terms of the salary cap, the Kings are currently $7 million below the first tax break, meaning they have little flexibility to strike another deal without paying salaries to match it.

Will McNair make another attempt to significantly improve the roster, or will he go after some cheap free agents and take that group to training camp?

We’ll see in the coming weeks.

When is the Sacramento Kings’ next offseason date of interest?

The hottest days of the NBA offseason have arrived.

Sacramento will continue to look to add to its roster before players report to training camp in late September. The Kings currently have two open roster spots that GM Monte McNair will need to fill in the coming weeks and months.
