When authorities arrived on the scene of the 10800 block of Nantucket Terrace, just off Falls Road, they found a lightning strike. Several homes in the area were reportedly experiencing electrical problems and heavy smoke.

According to Pete Piringer, spokesman for MCFRS, there was no fire at the single-family home where smoke was first reported.

Piringer said a lightning strike caused a power surge in several homes, blowing an electric meter in two separate homes.

Pepco was on scene due to power outages in the area. As of 7:15 p.m., Pepco’s Outage Map reported that about five customers in the Potomac area were without power.
