Metro and County Partner to Create New Development in North Bethesda

County Executive Marc Elrich and Metro General Manager/CEO Randy Clarke signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the North Bethesda Metro Station, where Metro and Montgomery County will partner to develop a science-focused development on 14 acres of land surrounding the station.

The county and Metro will jointly approach developers to create a community focused on life sciences and public transportation at the station surrounding the University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing. The Institute for Health Computing will conduct research into artificial intelligence, machine learning and virtual and augmented reality. For the first time, it will also bring research at master’s level to the region.

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen presented a check for $5 million during the signing ceremony on Monday afternoon.
