NKY Chamber’s August 20 Eggs ‘N Issues to Address Efforts to Grow the Skilled Workforce Pipeline

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s (NKY Chamber) upcoming Eggs ‘N Issues: Growing our Region’s Trades Talent event will be held on Tuesday, August 20 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Receptions Banquet and Conference Center – South, located at 1379 Donaldson Road in Erlanger.

Because there is still a high demand for certified professionals – the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there will still be more than three million jobs in the specialized occupations unfilled by 2028 – Kristen Smitherman-VoltaireMS, PMP, Director of Community and Citizenship at Turner Construction Company, leads the panel discussion with industry experts on what’s being done to grow craftsmanship in our region.

Scheduled speakers include:

Doctor Fernando FigueroaPresident of Gateway Community and Technical College, has taught for more than 25 years. He holds a Ph.D. and Master of Arts in English from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Loyola University in New Orleans. During his time at Gateway, he has been an advocate for area initiatives focused on workforce development and diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Brady JollyPresident and CEO of Jolly Plumbing, holds a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies. He has served as CEO of Jolly for over five years and is committed to continuing the company’s mission to provide the highest quality plumbing, drain, heating and air products and services to people in the region.

Diane McConnellMSEd, LPC, Director of Workforce Development at Enzweiler Building Institute, brings more than 25 years of leadership experience overseeing and managing technical training programs and workforce development to the panel. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ohio Northern University and earned her master’s degree in education and related professions from the University of Dayton. In her current role, she strives to bridge the gap between workforce needs and talent development while inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals.

Carolyn StewartDirector of Campbell County Area Technology Center, graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies with certifications in Special Education and Secondary Social Studies from Northern Kentucky University. She earned her Master of Arts in Educational Instructional Leadership from NKU in 2006 and her School Principal Certification in 2014. She strives to expand tech partnerships and opportunities throughout the community.

“Growth in trades occupations in the U.S. continues to outpace supply, and Northern Kentucky is no exception,” said Brent Cooper, president and CEO of the NKY Chamber. “Certified tradespeople are in high demand, especially in certain positions that offer competitive salaries and benefits. We need to attract enthusiastic, skilled tradespeople to meet regional demand, and our panel of experts will provide insight into efforts to balance supply and demand for tradespeople in Northern Kentucky.”

Eggs ‘N Issues: Growing our Region’s Trades Talent begins with attendee check-in, breakfast, and networking from 7:30 to 7:55 a.m. The keynote presentation and audience Q&A session will follow until 9:00 a.m. Registration is $30 for NKY Chamber members and $50 for prospective members.
