Reps. Pressley, Lee highlight VP Harris’ abortion rights record at Pittsburgh rally • Pennsylvania Capital-Star

U.S. Reps. Summer Lee (D-12th District) and Ayanna Presley (D-Mass.) will gather in Pittsburgh on Wednesday to highlight Vice President Kamala Harris’s record on reproductive rights, the same day that former President Donald Trump campaigns in Harrisburg.

Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has led the Biden administration’s response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. In March, Harris became the first vice president to visit an abortion clinic. And she campaigned at Salus University in Montgomery County in May — when Biden was still at the top of the ticket — and spoke with actress Sheryl Lee Ralph about Trump’s abortion record.

“If you want to know who is to blame for the current situation, you can point directly to the former president,” Harris said in May.

‘We need to have these conversations out loud’: VP Harris talks abortion in Pennsylvania

Abortion is legal in Pennsylvania until 24 weeks, and Governor Josh Shapiro is a staunch supporter of reproductive rights.

Both Pressley and Lee are also staunch supporters of abortion rights, with Pressley chairing the U.S. House Pro Choice Caucus’ Abortion Rights and Access Task Force. Lee is a member of the Pro Choice Caucus. Pressley is also a founding member of the House’s Stop Project 2025 task force.

shelter And Persley both supported Harris’s candidacy for president.

Project 2025 is the conservative Heritage Foundation plan for a second Trump term, which outlines goals such as passing the strongest abortion ban the next Republican administration can get through Congress and cutting corporate taxes. Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, has tried to distance himself from the proposal.

Trump himself has bragged about appointing the three conservative Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade, and has said he wants states to oversee laws governing abortion access.
