The Department of Transportation is conducting a milling and resurfacing project on State Route 529 (New Britain Avenue) in West Hartford and Hartford from Route 173 (Newington Road) to Newington Avenue.

The milling has already been completed, it started last week and should take a few days.

The project involves resurfacing a 2.14-kilometer section of Route 529.

While milling is complete, road resurfacing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7 through Monday, August 12, to be carried out by Tilcon of New Britain.

At the same time as the milling, the roadway was reconstructed to one lane in each direction, with a central two-way left-turn lane between the intersections of South Road in West Hartford and Newington Avenue in Hartford. This improved safety and provided wider shoulders for cyclists.

The modified lane use will be evaluated before the new road surface is constructed.

Motorists can expect closed lanes in that area. Traffic controllers and traffic signs will guide motorists through the work area.

The night work for this project will continue until Monday, August 12, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Sunday through Friday.

“Motorists should be aware that adjustments or extensions to this schedule may be necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances,” officials wrote.

“Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed in this area.”

If you would like to provide feedback on the revised lane usage, please send it to [email protected].
