Des Moines officer shot, suspect killed while responding to domestic situation

A Des Moines police officer was shot and a suspect was killed this morning after police were called to investigate a domestic situation.

According to a statement from the Des Moines Police Department, it was just after 3:30 a.m. when officers responded to a call of someone violating a restraining order. About 20 minutes later, officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle driving nearby, attempted to stop it, and the suspect fled. Shortly before 4 a.m., the suspect’s vehicle left a street in Des Moines. A police spokesperson said that “seconds later,” officers reported shots fired and an officer shot in the chest. The suspect was shot by officers and died at the scene.

According to Des Moines police, the officer who was seriously injured is 37 years old and had been a Des Moines police officer for four years.
