Possible lightning strike in Potomac neighborhood causes electrical problems

A possible lightning strike in Potomac on Monday caused electrical problems and smoke at several homes, said Pete Piringer, chief spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

Firefighters were called to Nantucket Terrace, near the Falls Road Golf Course, around 5:30 p.m. Monday for smoke in a home, Piringer said. A power surge affected several homes and knocked out power in the area. There was no fire.

No one was hurt.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect in the region on Monday as showers and thunderstorms were reported.
