Blazers reporter doesn’t expect two firsts for Jerami Grant

Portland Trail Blazers reporter Aaron Fentress for The Oregonian joined The Drive Guys on Monday to discuss a recent report indicating that forward Jerami Grant needs a first-round pick in any trade.

Fentress seemed unsure that such a deal would work.

“I don’t know who gives up two firsts for Jerami,” he said. “It’s one of those things … what you want and what you get are two different things.”

As he points out, when Portland originally acquired Jerami Grant, it cost them just one first-rounder. Now, with a few years left on his body and a four-year, $132 million contract yet to be fulfilled (including a player option in 2027-28), the asking price for multiple firsts may be too high.

From the Sacramento Kings perspective, there is a clear need for improved wing/forward play. However, it is all about picking the right player.

Adding another large salary could significantly limit their future flexibility in their current financial situation, so if they were to make a move for Jerami Grant, they would have to be confident that it would propel them to the top of the confusing Western Conference.
